Update from Miguel

Polly, an American volunteer doing some work with STeP UP, has just arrived to São Tomé and Kadema has now just received her computer!!!! YAAAAAY!!! We did it!!!

On a less bright note, apparently one of the computers has an irresolvable problem and our friend, Elves, who has agreed to fix them is being a flake and not showing up when the teachers call him and ask for his help. It's frustrating the teachers and they're not sure what to do. I wonder if Elves is paid and if paying him will help, or if I should look for someone else, or what.

On that note, there are so many unemployed people in São Tomé that you could easily pay someone for their work, and pay them well, without adding too much to a grant application. Hmm.

Anyone have advice on the subject?

  1. Hi Beth!
I'd definitely consider paying someone on a retainer basis to fix the laptops. Money is still the great motivator, and you're right that it creates at least a part time job. If there is any local tech companies, consider using them. Promises of help don't often lead to concrete results, especially when you're dealing with island life, and (in my experience) it's even worse with friends.

I'll be following your blog, with some envy. Tenho ciumes!

I'm not going to ask you to give or send me some stamps but I have this little favor to asked, I would like to ask you to send me an envelope with my Name and Address written on it and then have it affix with nice Sao Tome E Principe stamps. (At least 3, the more would be great, one stamp will do) there’s no need to put anything inside on the envelope. I think this will not cost you much. Please!!! I will ought it big. Please! this will help me a lot! Please! It will help also a lot in my teaching profession, I can show it to my class that there is a beautiful country known as Sao Tome E Principe. I'm also teaching Geography, not many people know about Sao Tome E Principe.

So, please! I have to beg you! Can you please mail me an envelope address to me affix with Sao Tome E Principe stamps. I collect them. I don’t have something from Sao Tome E Principe. Through it, I can promote your tourism of Sao Tome E Principe.

Stamps are the smallest ambassador of a country. Right ? I wish to visit Sao Tome E Principe in my life someday.
