The São João middle school, in São Tomé and Príncipe, recently received 100 ultra-durable, energy-efficient laptop computers from students at the University of Illinois through MIT's One Laptop per Child program, an initiative that works to bring technology into the hands of disadvantaged children. Each laptop is personalized for the specific child using it, and is meant to be brought home and shared with family and friends.

After very few class periods, the kids are already making a splash in the computer world. But we can't let it stop here. There are 600 students in the 6th grade and about 1300 students in the school. 100 computers is not enough. We can do better than this.

Computers can only be purchased in quantities of 100+. For this reason, we need at least $23,500 in order to supply the São João school with more computers. Our long term goal is to raise $117,500 total, or enough money to purchase 500 XO laptops.
